The Week Ahead in Fashion: runway shows, trunk shows, designer appearances

Fashionable Events in the San Francisco Bay Area
Week of March 26th through April 1st, 2012
There are several museums in the Bay Area with exhibits highlighting fashion, which is perfect for sharpening and expanding one's fashion knowledge.  In addition, there are many fashion shows, trunk shows and other fun fashionable events happening throughout the week.  However you choose to spend your week, enjoy it in style!

ONGOING
Experience a fashion exhibit like no other.  This dynamic, multimedia exhibition spotlights 140 haute couture and prêt-à-porter designs created by Jean Paul Gaultier between the 1970s an 2010, along with numerous sketches, archival documents, fashion photographs and video clips.  Despite the gritty and sometimes controversial content of his collections, the clothes remain beautiful, superbly crafted with the finest dressmaking and detailing skills.  General admission is $11.
Check out the avant-garde beauty of the Aesthetic Movement at the Legion of Honor art exhibit through June 17th, 2012.  This look at The Victorian Avant-Garde will feature a series of exclusive programs including live entertainment, costumes, and hands-on art making.  Programs are free with museum admission of $11.
Explore an exhibition of twenty artists' work that uses armature of clothing or actual clothing as a premise for sculpture.  Embracing personal ideas and the conceptual edge of craft, the artworks address concepts of money, human nature and statements of identity.  Ticket cost is $5.
The Botanical Garden at UC Berkeley is hosting a special exhibition of natural fibers and dyes.  From traditional uses to inspired future innovation in Eco-fashion and textiles, a walk through the exhibit illuminates the connection of culture within nature.  Admission is $10.
TUESDAY 
Meet award winning fashion designer Bibhu Mohapatra and view his latest collection of elegant evening gowns. To schedule an appointment, call 415.362.3900 ext 2351.
WEDNESDAY
This is the last day to review Bibhu Mohapatra's collection of evening wear at Neiman Marcus.  In addition, check out these other great fashion events:

THURSDAY

The de Young Museum's latest exhibit "The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier" inspired the latest Friday Night at the Museum with the "Gaultierize Yourself" event.  The evening will include live performances, a styling room, art-making workshops, runway lessons and a special lecture of Jean Paul Gaultier.  Cost to attend is $11.

SATURDAY

Come out to Healdsburg for this fashion boutique featuring over 25 vendors.  Some of the vendors include Arbonne, Miche Bags, Teeze Trunk, Cookie Lee Jewelry and Time For Style.  No cost to attend.

Bossini and the executive sales team from Versace are hosting a vignette style fashion show featuring looks from the Versace collection available at the boutique in Valley Fair Mall.  This is the launch event for the Versace fashion show later in the evening in San Francisco.  No cost to attend.
As part of the Fiber and Dye Exhibition,the Botanical Garden at UC Berkeley is hosting a "Creating a Garden Garment" workshop where attendees will learn how to create and dye their own scarves.  Registration is $40.
Votive magazine is launching their newest edition featuring The HUB in Sausalito.  Bay Area's top local fashion designers are all under one roof and Votive magazine breaks down how the HUB began, who is involved and details on the labels.
As part of the Macy's "Gardens in Paradise" flower show, enjoy informal modeling and light refreshments as stylists explain how to make any outfit pop with Brazilian-inspired accessories.
Lombardi Sports is showing they have much more than sports attire at their Urban Fashion Event.  The runway fashion show starts at 4:00 pm and complimentary food and drinks will be served.  Free with RSVP and limited gift bags available.
