Three disparate elements of the San Francisco underground arts scene - conceptual fashion, Butoh performance and ambient electronic music - are about to collide at a fashion happening. Entitled"Farewell Fantastic Venus", this one-time event by iconoclastic San Francisco designer Ilanio will bring an audience of 50 by private bus to Shelldance, a timeworn orchid greenhouse perched over the Pacific, to witness the confluence of these cultural currents. Join Candystore Collective for a scented reading with Novelist Keith Scribner and perfumer Yosh Han, fusing inspired thoughts and aromas from the Oregon Experiment. This award-winning author's third novel, reveals a scented world through Naomi Pratt, a perfumer suffering from the loss of smell. Her husband acts as her 'surrogate nose'. As they arrive in Oregon, the smell of mint reawakens Naomi's olfactory powers, but she very soon discovers that she doesn't like everything she's smelling. While writing the novel, Scribner met with SF perfumer Yosh Han to create the fragrance that Naomi works on in the novel. Sunday, September 18, 2011 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
