Mss Vee's Top Picks for Fashion's Night Out

Hey everyone, Mss Vee here...
With all the different store events happening on the evening of Fashion's Night Out on Friday, September 10th, 2010, a fashion whore like myself needs to be wise about how to approach these events.  First and foremost it's important to remember there are always going to be loads of photo ops...so going a little more edgy, avant-garde, or classy are ways that you will for sure stand out in a crowd.
Secondly, make sure you are going to be in something that will work with going to and from all the department stores.  Keeping in mind that we are in San Francisco - one minute its warm and sunny and then its starts pouring and your makeup has gone from you face to your feet...not cute.  You also may want to be wearing something that you feel comfortable in, as well as keeping that edgy, avant-garde style, but always remembering that sometimes beauty equals pain...lol...
Lastly, most stores will be serving appetizers and complementary drinks.  Don't even think about it... Just kidding.  Just remember there are lots of photographers around and when taking those pics, try to remember to not have food or a drink in your hand.  If you do, ask someone politely to hold it for you, or you can do what I do and hold the cup behind you.  It always works for me.  With so many stores serving food and drinks, we need something more to lure us into stopping by.  The places you want to be are the stores that are having special in-store events that you normally aren't able to see when going out shopping.  For example, music legend Carlos Santana will be at Macy's promoting his new shoe collection or Saks is having DJs from local modeling agencies spinning stylistic music during an informal fashion show.
With this being said, these are my top spots for Fashion's Night Out...Have Fun...
Me*
Start out the evening at Fashion's Night Out Westfield Center for their happy hour event.  Under the dome, enjoy wine and appetizers from Lark Creek Steak and Out The Door by Charles Phan from 5:00 to 6:30 PM for a tickets cost of $10.  This is organized by Artpoint, a young professionals group of the Fine Arts Mueums of San Francisco.  Aveda will also be on hand doing makeup, so get dolled up here before you hit the stores.  While you're mingling and eating, you can determine if there's any stores you want to hit at Westfield before you go to the main department store events.  Nordstrom will be having special prize drawings, so you might want to enter them before you continue your Fashion's Night Out journey.  Mostly all the retailers in the mall will be providing drinks and snacks.
First department store stop is at Fashion's Night Out - Macy's.  Music legend Carlos Santana will be on hand from 6:00 to 7:00 PM promoting his collection at the Shoes section on Level 2.  Greet Carlos and then check out the Impulse section Level 3 where local fashion authority Owen Buenaventura will be presenting "Flutter".  This fashion exhibit will feature local fashion designers who will be competing for a style challenge where attendees vote for their favorite look.  The designers include Jill Giordano & Brian Scheyer, Daniel & David Concepcion, Phuong My, Danielle Pettee and Mike San Gaspar.  Enjoy informal modeling while you sip on complimentary drinks to DJ'd music.  Countess LuAnn de Lesseps from the Housewives of NYC, will make a personal appearance at Bridge on Level 2 at 7:30 PM, but timing might be difficult to fit this in and also to visit the other department store activities, as most of them end at 8:00 PM.
Next, walk across the Union Square Park for Fashion's Night Out - Saks Fifth Avenue.  Head to Chloe on the second floor to get a fashion sketch done of yourself by one of the artists.  Next go to the fifth-floor Fashion mix lounge and enjoy champagne while DJs from JE Models and Look Modeling Agency spin music.  There will also be informal modeling.  If you're ambitious, head over to The Saks Fifth Avenue Men's Store 5th Floor, 220 Post Street, where there will be a Vessel/Saks lounge party with complimentary cocktails and DJ'd music.  You can also pick up tickets here for the Fashion's Night Out Vessel afterparty, which is happening from 8:00 to 10:00 PM.
Next stop is Fashion's Night Out - Neiman Marcus.  Oh so ready for the evening, Neiman Marcus is hosting a special unique event on each floor throughout the department store.  Some highlights include a fashion exhibition by Academy of Art University students whose designs were in the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York, a personal appearance by designer Zachary Prell in the menswear department, and an exclusive viewing of the Christopher Collins collection.  If you haven't done it already at one of the prior stops, don't forget to purchase a Fashion's Night Out super chic t-shirt while you're here to celebrate the shopping occasion.  DJs will be spinning stylish tunes while shoppers can enjoy light snacks and view informal modeling on each floor .
Lastly, come back to Owen Buenaventura's "Flutter" exhibit at the Impulse section, Level 3 to find out which one of the featured designers won the style challenge design contest.  Take your last drink, enjoy last minute photo opportunities by professional photographers and either call it an evening or head to one of the Fashion's Night Out afterparties!
