A couple months ago, I was at a fashion show, sitting next to a gentleman who owns a shoe store in San Francisco. He claimed "the only designers in San Francisco are those Burning Man type designers who make costumes." I thought, "really?" I mentioned that I happened to work in the local fashion industry for awhile helping San Francisco designers produce their collections and that I even knew several high-end women's shoe designers from the Bay Area as well. He gave me a look as if I told him the most amazing thing. Really. I wish I could sit down and have a talk with each person who doesn't think or is unaware that a fashion industry exists in the Bay Area and that there are local designers producing innovative, even affordable clothing. However, why do this when San Francisco's Chic Fashion Week will be giving a voice to local fashion designers and industry professionals with a week-long series of events.
San Francisco's Chic Fashion Week is being held August 1st through the 8th, 2010 in San Francisco. Under the direction of Mario B. Productions and Leather + Lace Events (no, this is not a fetish company), talented fashion industry professionals are hosting a week of events that include fashion shows, industry mixers, trunk shows, chic fashion soirees, a gala benefit, and the main weekend fashion shows. Furthermore, a portion of the proceeds are being donated to benefit Until There's a Cure and will help start a school which focuses on high-risk students, preparing them for success within the fashion industry. According to the organizers, "Chic Fashion Week is committed to exemplify what San Francisco fashion has to offer."
Some of the local Bay Area designers involved in Chic Fashion Week are Alexandria Von Bromssen, Amour Vert, Anya Tatarenko, Bacca Da Silva, Candice Cuoco, Constance Ng, Daniel Sudar, Danielle Pettee, Domonique Echeverria, Fab Heart, GB Shrive Designs, Invisible Hero Industries, Kara Emily, Kitty Andrews Millinery, Linzel Couture, Magdalena Trever, Malin Namita, Medium Reality, Miranda Caroligne, Miss G. Designs, RockChiq, Shekhar Rehate, and Swati Couture.
